With the full implementation of the China VIb emission standard, automakers are increasing their investment in exhaust treatment systems. The three-way catalytic converter core, the core "purification heart," is undergoing an upgrade from a "universal" design to a "customizable, high-density, multi-layer coating."

A joint venture brand's technical center revealed that its new models utilize a "dual-bed three-way catalytic converter." The front-stage core is specialized for rapid ignition, while the rear stage enhances sustained conversion capabilities. Combined with a gasoline particulate filter (GPF), this achieves near-zero emissions. Some high-performance models also incorporate "electrically heated catalytic converter cores," which accelerate cold-start purification through instant heating.

Industry insiders stated, "Core performance directly determines emissions performance and has become a new frontier of technological competition among automakers." Many OEMs have established joint laboratories with catalyst suppliers to promote continuous iteration of core technology.
